Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike struck Houston and Galveston in September.

Steve and our neighbors boarded up our house. You can see Evan helping out.

Our house is ready for Ike.

After Ike, the houses behind us were missing pieces of their roof.

This is a common image for the area we live in. Most of the houses on our street have blue roofs now.

This chimney was riped off the roof of a house in our town.

Most of the signs in our city now look like this. Almost none of them look "normal."

This is why it took 11 days to restore power to us. And a lot of Houston had to wait a week or two more to get power. When we left Houston right after the hurricane, it was very dangerous. We had to drive over many downed power lines.

When life gives you lemons....You go to Mimi and Papa's! We were able to stay at my parents house...4 hours away, while we waited for our power to be turned back on. It took 11 days for the power to restored to our house. We were one of the last houses to get power in our town. We tried to be positive about the situation. But, there are so many toys, parks, and things to do when you are away from home. After about a week, everyone was really "home sick." We went to Zilker Park twice while we were in Cedar Park. The first time we went, we rode the train and then the next time we went to see a dinosaur exhibit. Some of the pictures are from another train ride we did a week or two before the hurricane.

There was a dinosaur exhibit at Zilker Park in Austin. The kids really enjoyed it.

Evan enjoys saying "roarrrrr!!!!" when he sees a ferocious creature.
